In the heart of West Virginia, where the mountains rise high,
The dawn breaks gently, painting the sky.
With family and friends, we gather 'round by,
In the crisp morning air, not a single sound.
Safety first, we whisper, as we load our gear,
With hopes for a harvest, and memories of deer.
The forest awakens, the hunt begins,
In the spirit of tradition, where everyone wins.
The buck season opens, with hearts full of cheer,
Sharing stories and laughter, with those we hold dear.
May our aim be true, and our harvest be grand,
In the wilds of West Virginia, together we stand.
We wish all of our students and families a safe and wonderful time this week, especially on opening morning! Don't forget about our Big Buck contest!

🌟In an exciting showcase of talent and dedication, five exceptional middle school band members from our school were selected to participate in the prestigious Honor Band at West Virginia Wesleyan College. This event, which took place over two and a half days, provided a unique opportunity for these young musicians to work closely with the esteemed conductor Mr. Dave Maccabee, culminating in a spectacular concert on Tuesday evening. 🎶
Pictured here are Wesleyan's chosen representatives, they are {left-right}:

We are so proud of our young musicians who represented us so well with their talent and with their character. We can't wait to where the music will take them! 🎷

Mrs. Bennett's eighth grade Wellness classes learned the importance of drug prevention. Students were asked to research a drug and explain the problems with addiction and the health issues that occur when using that drug. Students presented their final project to the class. Here are some of the projects.

Did you know that most social media platforms have age restrictions for a reason? Here are some important facts to consider:
1. Age Requirements: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok require users to be at least 13 years old. This is to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which aims to protect the privacy of children under 13.
2. Mental Health: Studies show that excessive social media use can negatively impact young teens’ mental health, leading to issues like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
3. Online Safety: Younger children are more vulnerable to online predators, cyberbullying, and exposure to inappropriate content. Keeping them off social media helps protect them from these risks.
4. Developmental Readiness: Middle school students are still developing critical thinking and emotional regulation skills. Social media can be overwhelming and may hinder their ability to navigate social interactions healthily.
5. Privacy Concerns: Kids may not fully understand the implications of sharing personal information online, which can lead to privacy breaches and long-term consequences.
Practical tips for parents to enforce age restrictions on social media:
1. Educate Your Child: Explain why age restrictions exist and the potential risks of using social media too early. Help them understand that these rules are in place to protect their privacy and well-being.
2. Set Clear Rules: Establish household rules about social media use, including which platforms are off-limits until they reach the appropriate age. Be consistent in enforcing these rules.
3. Use Parental Controls: Utilize parental control features available on devices and apps to restrict access to social media platforms. This can help prevent younger children from creating accounts without your knowledge.
4. Monitor Online Activity: Regularly check your child’s online activity and the apps they use. This can help you stay informed about their digital behavior and ensure they are not bypassing restrictions.
5. Encourage Open Communication: Foster an environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their online experiences with you. This can help you address any issues or concerns they may have about social media.
6. Model Good Behavior: Demonstrate healthy social media habits yourself. Show your child how to use social media responsibly and the importance of balancing online and offline activities.
7. Create a Family Media Plan: Develop a family media plan that includes guidelines for screen time, appropriate content, and the importance of offline activities. This can help set clear expectations for everyone in the household.
8. Delay Smartphone Ownership: Consider delaying giving your child a smartphone until they are older. This can help reduce their exposure to social media and other online risks.
9. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and features of social media platforms. This knowledge can help you better understand the potential risks and how to mitigate them.
10. Encourage Alternative Activities: Promote hobbies and activities that do not involve screens. Encourage your child to engage in sports, arts, reading, and other offline pursuits to help them develop a well-rounded lifestyle.
By taking these steps, you can help ensure your child uses social media safely and responsibly when they are old enough.
